2 Degrees Records’ official name is 2 Degrees of Separation. The technology of today has shrunk the distance between each individual form 6 to 2 degrees; likewise cultures and forms of entertainment have become more intertwined. 2 Degrees Records uses this interconnection to build a brand of musical entertainment that crosses genres and cultures to create a new and enduring sound.

While working for Russell Simmons Music Group (RSMG) in New York, Mike Styles was encouraged by Russell Simmons to found his own label. Initially concerned about the risks involved with startup labels, Styles was encouraged by friends in the industry to trust in his knowledge as a producer and move forward with his business plan. Choosing New Orleans as home base for the label was an easy decision, due to both a desire to be involved in the revitalization of post-Katrina New Orleans and the wealth of musical talent in the city. Every artist that has been chosen for the label is a performer Styles truly believes in – a necessity for any successful label.
